A wonderful Victorian-era silver napkin ring featuring a three-dimensional applied running hare / rabbit figure riveted to the front, set within an engraved cartouche of scrolling foliate and crosshatch work. The body of the ring is richly engraved overall with Aesthetic-period geometric and floral motifs — repeating arrowhead and fan borders at the top and bottom edges, with scrollwork and flower accents across the body. The reverse is engraved with the monogram MAD. No hallmark or maker's mark is present; tests as grade silver, with some remnants of an old test patch on the interior that can be polished out. Measures approximately 1.65 inches tall by 1.85” wide and 1.4 inches deep; total weight 52 g. A charming and decorative piece in the Victorian naturalist tradition.
