A large antique Dutch silver matchbox holder — a sleeve-style case designed to hold a standard matchbox, which slides inside the open frame. Marked on the front with the Dutch Lion Passant hallmark indicating a minimum 833 silver fineness, and also bearing the Minerva head duty mark. The front panel features a beautifully detailed embossed raised-relief pastoral scene depicting cattle and a farmer beneath a tree, framed by scrollwork corners. The silver has a warm aged patina consistent with early 19th-century Dutch silverwork. Minor signs of normal age and wear overall; very good condition considering age. Measures approximately 4.46 inches long by 2.74 inches wide by 1.35 inches tall. Total weight 117 g.
